Village Marks One Year Anniversary
Peninsula Village Celebrates Its One Year Anniversary
Villagers celebrated one year of growth, friendship, learning, volunteering and having fun at a July 2017 get-together at the Palos Verdes Peninsula Library.
In addition to reviewing a successful year of growth, members also learned about two resources that are available in the community.
1. HomeShare: This organization facilitates housing options for the aging in a variety of ways. A client can agree to have someone move in with them to pay rent and help defray expenses, or perhaps give daily help with more challenging activities, or simply for companionship. Or, a senior could elect to move in with someone else, for companionship or to reduce living expenses.
2. Center for Optional Aging, located at Providence Little Company of Mary Hospital, San Pedro, provides a three-part assessment performed by an expert multi-disciplinary team of therapists, dietitians, pharmacists and eldercare specialists to insure that the patient is receiving all necessary medical care. The program is covered by Medicare and PPO Insurance.

We also like to learn
After a little more than a year in operation, it turns out that aside from needing a variety of services, members of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Village like to get together and explore new ideas and have fun. Two of the latest activities involved: 1) A discussion on the high cost of earning a college degree and 2) Listening to Atul Gawande, author of "Being Mortal" discuss medical and life decisions that everyone has to make.
Learn a little more about these and other activities by viewing the Photo Albums of our activities.
We have gathered for a barbershop quartet concert, a "mystery tour," a flute recital that included information about a variety of instruments, a vodka tasting, and a wildflower tour, as well as lectures on medical ethics, Chinese culture, and the Upside of Aging. All this is in addition to casual get-togethers for brunch, get-acquainted coffees and salons where members pick a subject of mutual interest and meet to talk about it. (A special thanks to Member Norm Zareski and his trusty camera, for this photographic record of our activities)
